Donald Sinclair Swan - 1918-2004

Maritime & Portrait Painter.

Born Glasgow, son of a minister. Served in Merchant Service. Mate on Commercial ships and in fishing fleet. Royal Navy. Invalided out of Navy and went to Glasgow School of Art.

Painted in London C.1945-1949 Assistant to Sir James Gunn.

Mate on Thames Barge with many paintings on this subject.

Donald Swan

Penzance School of Art, studying pottery under Bernard & Michael Leach.

1957, Married Cornish girl Elizabeth. Three Children. Mary, Donald and James

1969-71, Artist in Residence Cutty Sark to mark Centenary where he painted over 400 paintings of the ship.

1972, Isle of Cumbrae Pottery.

2000, Moved to Penzance in February where he painted to his death.

Paintings in National Collections. National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh. National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. Penlee House Museum and Gallery, Penzance. Newlyn Art Gallery, Cornwall.

The painting of Cutty Sark and the Great Wave 1890, normally on board Cutty Sark is typical of his outstanding work.

Maritime artist in oils and watercolour.

Born Camden, London.
Trained Heatherley School, Royal Academy.

Awards.
Turner Gold Medal 1869.

Prolific works include the 42ft (13M) panorama of the battle of Trafalgar, Royal Naval Museum, Portsmouth.

Born Texas 1928- South West Texas State Teachers College. Majored in Journalism.

Studied Art with Prof Simon Michael, Rockport, TX.

Established Art Center of Corpus Christi 1990.

Paintings in numerous collections US and Europe.

Honoured 2010 Retrospective Exhibition 35 paintings 'Looking Back'.

Accomplished Author with several books.

New York. Marine artist specialising in oils with silk and velvet.


Watton's Drawing

'Master Forger of Colditz' -
John Fessenden Watton.  1915-1988

Born Plympton, Devon. Moved K Shoes, Kendal, as designer.
World War II taken prisoner outside Dunkirk and moved to Colditz.
His artistic talents in great demand forging documents that enabled Airey Neave, (first Home Run) and Pat Reid to escape.
Retiring to Windermere formed Windermere Art Society.
Illustrated number of books, including Colditz, and many of his works are displayed in Colditz Castle as a tribute to him.

Brian Ormerod

Born Accrington, Lancashire.  26/6/1934.
Worked Arnold Card works and quickly developed artistic talents.
Head Hunted by the exclusive Bronn International of America, who described him- “British sculpter who sits recognised internationally by his peers and creates some of the most superb porcelain in the world“.  President Ronald Reagan being one of his patrons.
